Redtail Ridge covers approximately one-third of Kensington's Wildland Urban Interface, with East Bay Regional Park at its eastern edge. Several of our neighbors have been overseeing vegetation management projects along our shared border for over 10 years.
As one of Kensington's first lines of defense against wildfires from the east, our goal is to reduce our individual wildfire risk to increase this neighborhood's resilience. We continue to collaborate with the Park on fuel reduction efforts, and fully support their recent eucalyptus thinning near Jewel Lake & shaded fuel breaks to the east.

This 15' x 50' slope was overgrown with vegetation, including a huge, hazardous juniper hedge. Flames would threaten both the home and the cars evacuating on Arlington Avenue. It's now been cleared and replanted with less fire-prone plants.
Household Activity Reports ensure Firewise Recognition is renewed annually. They also help shape Kensington's wildfire programs.
